§ 2-513. Interment of deceased indigents.

  • (a)

    Whenever any person dies in the county and the decedent, his family and his immediate kindred are indigent and unable to provide for his decent interment as sworn in an affidavit to the judge of the probate court, the county shall make available from county funds the sum of $500.00 to provide for the proper interment of the decedent. This amount will be the total amount available to pay for the funeral contract. Any money paid by the family will be deducted from the county provided portion. The funeral home shall have the discretion to provide the appropriate level of service.

    (b)

    The judge of the probate court shall provide to the governing authority the affidavit with a sworn signature. The form should list the name of the deceased, the date of death, the county where the death occurred and the funeral home providing interment services.
